Race type: Time trial
Location: Prees Heath
Date: 17 June, 2018
From Simon Higgins:
The club’s time trial hardcore were competing in the WCTTCA 50 on Prees today. Arriving at 06.45 to find a cold rain falling at the HQ was not encouraging. Luckily this stopped, but it remained cloudy, cold and with a fairly lively SW wind.
This meant a headwind for most of the outward leg and a tailwind most of the way home. Not many of us seemed to enjoy this!
Kate won the ladies’ competition with a 2:08:16, Chris did 2:02:58, Alex 2:14:00 and I managed 2:00:57, which quite surprised me as my gear cable completely jammed at around 20 miles with it stuck in 53x15. I stopped to try and manually alter the gear but this failed and I was spinning frantically for most of the way back.
Still, at least I deprived the Phoenix of one other prize- best old git, sorry, Best Vet on Standard! Phil Williams produced a phenomenal 1:43:01 which I think improved his 50 PB.
